Vipers' Head Man Retires: George Prefontaine
Ray Tremblay: Vipers Website
George Prefontaine
President 2006-2012
TheVipers players, present and passed, along with George's co-workers on the Vipers Executive, unite to offer George Prefontaine their most sincere thank-yous, for a job well done. For the last six years George has been active, mostly behind the scene, assuring the success of the Vipers Team from one season to the next. His dedication to the team is unsurpassed as he assumed most of the duties associated with running a hockey team. With his wife Suzanne at his side, George attended all the league's meetings, work deligently in finding and signing players, was instrumental, again with Suzanne's help, in organizing various competitions, and the list goes on.
The Vipers website is pleased to dedicate this page to George in recognition of his continued support for the team. Ray's Web Design is also very thankful to George who, throughout his stay as president, was always prompt to send all the information needed in order for the Website to be updated.
On a more personal note I would like to extend my best regards to a good friend, George. I worked with George for the last six years with the Vipers and I enjoyed every minute of it. For one thing, I got to know him as a co-worker and associate. I can assure you that he does his work with determination and dedication and aims for the highest achievement. Even after announcing his intention of retiring from the Vipers in September 2011, George continued to perform with the same intensity and enthusiasm for the betterment of the team. I found myself thinking a number of times that, judging from his dedication to the team, he would be back. But unfortunately, George is not coming back next year. So, on behalf of myself and the Vipers, George, thank you.
With Six Years of Successful Coaching Ray Calls it Quit
Ray Tremblay: Vipers' Website
Ray DeChamplain and the game of hockey go together like a hand and a glove. In fact the name DeChamplain has been floating around in the hockey environments for many years, whether in Legal, across the province or even in Europe. Today, however, we want to concentrate on Ray DeChamplain the Vipers' coach.
From the Vipers' inception in the NCHL in 2006, Ray immediately showed up in the picture as an assistant coach to Roger Legault. He and Roger formed a good team until the end of the 2008-2009 season when Roger retired from the game to spend more time with his family. Basically the same reasons are the major factors behind Ray's decision to retire this year. With his two sons, André and Paul retiring after this season, Ray wants to follow more closely his grandchildren who are now playing in the minor ranks. Obviously the name DeChamplain continues to appear in hockey and the tradition goes on. The third generation is now underway and that has to be good news to everyone.
Ray the coach, will be remembered as the calm, quiet, peaceful coach and yet, when necessary, capable of giving his players the necessary authoritative pushes and reprimands as required. Ray always showed a lot of respect for his players treated them almost like family. He always remained positive even in the darkest hours. His approach can be best describe in his own words; "Well, that's all part of the game". "That's hockey".Ray possessed an unsurpassed ability to appease the players when the action got too rough on the ice.He was remarquable that way. Seldom, did he loose his temper if at all. But being a normal human being, I suppose it must have happened at times. Ray was a promoter of fair and clean play, his philosophy based on the objectives of the game.
On a personal level, I will greatly miss Raymond next year. Not to see him there will be different. I know I will often find myself thinking,"I wish Ray was still here". I always considered Ray as a friend, and after six years with him and the Vipers he has become someone for whom I hold utmost respect. Not only is he a friend, he is a best friend. Thank you Ray for your contribution to hockey in general and to the Vipers.

"The time has come."-says Yvonne DeChamplain
After many years of involvement in hockey, Yvonne DeChamplain feels that the time has come for her to pass on the torch to others. Yvonne has been a hockey mom for over thirty years and is now entering a second hockey phase as a hockey grandmother. As much as she enjoyed being part of the Vipers, following the grandchildren's progress has, and rightfully so, taking precedence over the Vipers. Yvonne and Ray intend on being there for their grandkids as much as they were there for their own children.
"Going to the Vipers' game was always an exciting event for me, and I enjoyed meeting friends and relatives. I also enjoyed working for the Vipers, either collecting at the gate or selling tickets or whatever else needed to be done. To watch my children play was also very exciting and even if at times it was nerve wrecking, generally it was very enjoyable."
Yvonne, the Vipers are grateful for all the work you did, game after game, for the team. Without people like you the success the Vipers experienced over the last six years would not have been possible. Sure meeting friends at the rink was an enjoyable experience for you but many are those, who choose to do that without accepting duties and responsibilities on the side. Your dedication and dependibility, were such that we knew you were going to be there whenever needed. For that Yvonne we are very grateful!

Suzanne resigns as Secretary/treasurer of the Vipers
The news of Suzanne leaving the Vipers' organisation, was met with deep regret by everyone involved with the Vipers.
Suzanne, like Yvonne DeChamplain, was an eager supporter of the Vipers and an arduous worker. Officially, Suzanne was the Vipers' treasurer and secretary. Unofficially, she was active in almost every aspect of the organisation. From the beginning she accepted a leading role with respect to fund raising, organizing contests for added entertainment between periods, selling 50/50 tickets, organizing the end of the year celebrations(Galas) and the list goes on.
Suzanne is not a fame seekers looking for glory. Throughout her six years with the Vipers she worked in the shadow accomplishing her duties quietly but efficiently. As secretary she accompanied George to many league meetings making sure that nothing went unnoticed, especially matters concerning the Vipers. Suzanne also took care of the financial side of the organization, a task that can be very demanding especially when the funds are low, as such was the case for most years.
Suzanne, the Vipers will miss you in the years to come, and they wish to thank you for your generosity and continuous support.
At Ray's Web Design we are also very appreciative of the efforts you've put in for the well being of the team and for your cooperation with us in terms of communications over the years.
Thankyou
