About the Team

The Legal Vipers consist of a group of young men in their twenties or thirties who love hockey and who are very conscious of their community and fans. These young men have jobs and like every one else have to make a living. They are aware of the high risk of injury surrounding the game but never-the-less are willing to take their chances in order to give their fans the opportunity to enjoy Senior Hockey in Legal.

The Legal Vipers are also very aware of the fact that when they were younger they were given the opportunity to play organized hockey in the minor leagues within our and surrounding communities. These same players in return want to help the minor hockey players in our community. This is why the Vipers are proud to have the sale of 50/50 tickets at all of their home games, with all the proceeds going to Legal minor Hockey.

The Vipers hockey team is a very community conscious group. Again this year the team will sponsor the Legal Viper Alumni Night and fan appreciation night. This event has proven to be very successful last year and should be again this year. Admission is $5.00 per person and all the proceeds are going back to the community. The Vipers encourage you to come and participate in the evening and ipso-facto support the community. We thank you in advance. More about the team in the coming weeks.

Legal Vipers' History

Hockey is the Canadian game. For those of us who have played or even watched the game of hockey it has become the game we love. In fact, Canadians literally fell in love with the game ... and once in love always in love.

It is thanks to this love for hockey, that senior hockey (Legal Vipers) came back on the scene in Legal after an absence of 30 years. The news hit the front page, the fans jumped on the bandwagon, and the Vipers started their first season in October of 2006. They are now in their second season, providing the hockey fans of Legal with thrilling games at what has now become "Hockey Night in Legal".

It all started with a young man's love for hockey! André de Champlain, convinced that senior hockey was viable in Legal, initiated the process. He first contacted his brother Paul and together they approached other possible players (Chris Gauthier, Kevin Borduzak, Marcus Borduzak, and Cody Properzie) and the ball started to roll. Soon the boys started to look for sponsors from the local businesses, and the funds started to come in. "Legal Motors, D.R.P. industries, René's vacuum and Darcy Brisson's transport" were among the first to step forward. Many others soon followed suit. We will recognize them in future articles in the section "About the Team" on the Vipers' WEB page.

In May of 2006, the first executive was formed. It consisted of: George Prefontaine President, Ray DeChamplain vice president, Ken Evans Secretary, and Ray Brisson Treasurer. Other members were Paul & André DeChamplain and Chris Gauthier. Mr Rémi Cyr was advisor to the group. The executive immediately took care of affairs and ice time was bought, a name for the team was selected, Jerseys were purchased, a bus was hired and most important, the team was entered in the North Central Hockey League.

A call was made for try-outs and many hopefuls showed up. After three on ice practices, Mr Roger Legault accepted to coach the team. The Legal Vipers were officially in existence.

Sponsors

The Legal Vipers thank the following businesses and individuals for sponsoring them for the season 2007-2008. Without your assistance, we (the Vipers) would not be able to meet the high cost of operating as a hockey team. Buying ice time, uniforms, equipment and transportation is very costly, but you made it possible. Sincere thanks from the Viper Hockey organisation and their many fans.
